(Ph.D., Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology). Jan is the PI of the Social Origins Lab at UC Berkeley. He studies the evolution of cooperation and morality. Many of his studies take a comparative approach: chimpanzees and human children are exposed to as-similar-as-possible experimental circumstances. The goal of this work is to determine what makes human cognition and behavior unique.
