(M.D., Ph.D., Yale University). She is Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities in the School of Public Health/Joint Medical Program. She works mainly on emotions and the imagination, with a longstanding focus on empathy. She is the author of From Detached Concern to Empathy: Humanizing Medical Practice (Oxford University Press). Halpern recently received a Greenwall Faculty Scholar career development award to write about emotions and envisioning future well-being, and the impact of this on serious health decisions.
