Elusive Objectivity

PF Strawson popularized the problem of objective experience: What is it about our experience of the world which grounds our conception of ourselves as distinct from the objects of experience, and as being one object among many in a shared world? I’ll sketch how Hume offers a rather deflationary answer to this challenge in Treatise 1.4.2, and connect Hume’s account to the dispute between Strawson and Evans over what needs to be explained if experience is to count as objective.
