The Language of Appearance and Evaluation

Certain evaluative terms, like ‘tasty’ and ‘fun’ (often called ‘predicates of personal taste’), have posed a challenge for philosophers and linguists. I explore how the distinctive linguistic behavior of these evaluative terms is shared also by terms used to describe appearances, like how things look, taste, sound, feel and smell. Why should we expect this similarity? And how might recent semantic work on taste predicates be extended to cover this broader territory?
