(Ph.D., Princeton University). His research interests lie mainly in moral and political philosophy. He is the author of The Rejection of Consequentialism, Human Morality, and Boundaries and Allegiances. He was a member of the Berkeley faculty from 1977-2008, most recently as Class of 1941 World War II Memorial Professor of Philosophy and Law. He now teaches at New York University.
