| 290-1 | Graduate Seminar: Plato on Perception | Schroeder | Tu 10-12 | Philosophy 234 |
What do we perceive, and what is it to perceive? How does perception relate to thought, memory, pleasure/pain, and imagination? And how do our best available scientific theories inform our approach to theorizing about perception? We will look at Plato’s answers to these questions in his so-called “late” dialogues, especially the Timaeus, Theaetetus, and Philebus. The seminar will be organized around my monograph manuscript on Plato’s philosophy of perception, which we will read alongside relevant primary texts and selected secondary literature.
