Kristina is a fifth-year graduate student in the philosophy department at the University of California, Berkeley. She is working on a dissertation about neo-Aristotelian conceptions of practical rationality, the normativity of practical reason, and the question of how theories about practical reason should figure in ethical theory. Her interests lie emphatically in ethics, but because of her focus on practional thought and action, she has found herself with a steadily developing interest in philosophy of mind. She finds the prospect of calling her work 'moral psychology' somewhat unpalatable, partly due to having accepted Elizabeth Anscombe's admonishment to do ethics, not moral philosophy, and partly out of a stubborn desire to do philosophy, and not psychology. Nonetheless, she expects her recent and in-progress work may be in an area that many would describe as moral psychology, insofar as it draws on discussions in ethics and the philosophy of mind. While Kristina is taking the Dean's Normative Time Fellowship this year, and so will not be a GSI for any philosophy classes, she is in residence at UC Berkeley and can be reached by e-mail at kgehrman@berkeley.edu.
