Friederike Rese, PhD in Philosophy from the University of Freiburg, Germany. Graduated in 2002 with a doctoral thesis on Aristotle’s practical philosophy, published with Mohr Siebeck in 2003. From 2002 until 2008, she has been an Assistant Professor (Wissenschaftliche Assistentin) at the University of Freiburg. Currently, she is working on her „Habilitationsschrift“ (second book). This book concerns the notion of experience as well as the conditions of experience. In this work, experience is considered as a mode of knowledge and as a process within consciousness that is caused by the encounter with something in the world. Experience relies on certain conditions, namely place, body, language, and time. During her stay at the Philosophy Department at UC Berkeley, she will be finishing her book on experience, edit a volume with essays on the philosophical relation of Husserl and Heidegger, and she plans to work on a new research project concerning the relation of reason, speech, and emotion.
